Heirs of Thomas Stewart vs. Charles C.S. Thompson, etc.: Chancery Cause, Dinwiddie County

Thomas Stewart was a free African American physician who owned a large amount of real and personal property. A commissioner was appointed to identify all of Stewart's heirs so that the court could divided his property equally among them. Many had migrated out of state. The suit includes a vast amount of genealogical information.

This chancery cause is part of the Library of Virginia's "Virginia Untold: The African American Narrative" collection. It has been separated from the main Virginia Untold collection on Transcribe due to its length.
